Captain Martin Sanders is an Public Health Professional and  received his degree in zoology from the University of California, Davis in 1990, and obtained his Ph.D. from the Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health in 1997.

Throughout his 18-year-long career, he had been deeply involved in biosafety and biosecurity issues both here and abroad.   He specializes in biological safety, field medical operations, biosecurity, occupational safety and health, infectious disease epidemiology, environmental health services, and occupational health and wellness programs.

He is certified as both a biological safety professional and a registered biosafety professional by the American Biological Safety Association.
